Recent developments such as VLSI-based personal computers and relatively low-cost supercomputers have allowed computers to be used in many new applications. Consequently, the concepts of computer architecture have become increasingly relavent to a larg e number of scientists, engineers, and other professionals.

SoC & Embedded System Design
System-on-a-chip (SoC or SOC) is an idea of integrating all components of a computer system into a single chip. It may contain digital, analog, mixed-signal, and often radio-frequency functions - all on one chip. A typical application is in the area of embedded systems.

Real-time System
An operation within a larger dynamic system is called a real-time operation if the combined reaction- and operation-time of a task is shorter than the maximum delay that is allowed, in view of circumstances outside the operation. The task must also occur before the system to be controlled becomes unstable.

Operating System
An operating system is a program that acts as an intermediary between the user of a computer and the computer hardware. The purpose of an operating system is to provide an environment in which a user can execute programs in a convenient and efficient manner.
